ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Clouds have returned to the Rochester area. Rain shower will continue throughout the afternoon hours and into the evening hours. To the south of Rochester, closer to the Southern Tier, they will experience clearer skies for longer than us here in Rochester. This allows for instability to build, which could lead to the potential of stronger but not severe thunderstorms near the Southern Tier. Temperatures will soar into the mid 70s for highs today. A cold front will move through the area Sunday night into Monday morning. Depending on the timing of the front, it could make for a massy day, temperature wise. As the front settles across the area, we could either see temperatures serge into the 70s or we'll be in the 50s for those places north of the thruway. There is a strong lean in our forecast towards the latter. We could see a few morning showers around Rochester, but as you head south of the front, which will be by the Southern Tier, a chance of a pop-up rain/thunder shower is not completely out of the question. The rain and thunderstorm chances grow heading into Tuesday as temperatures climb back into the upper 60s, potentially kissing the 70° mark. We'll see a widespread chance for rain throughout the day as well as everyone having a chance for a few thunderstorms as well. Rain moves out of the area Tuesday night into Wednesday. Wednesday and Thursday look primarily dry with temperatures expected to hover right around the 70° for both days. Rain chances are reintroduced Friday and into next weekend along with fading temperatures. Click here for Rochester's 8 Day Forecast
