LPD help with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Apr 28, 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and the Lexington Police Department made sure to help people dispose of their unwanted or expired medication.
Members of the department were outside Kentucky American Water on Richmond Road accepting the medications for free at the disposal event.
Items accepted included prescriptions and over-the-counter pills, vitamins medicated ointments and lotions.
“We want to make it easy, efficient and anonymous is a big thing too,” said Lt. Corey Doane. “We just want the prescription medicine, ointments, everything that they don’t need and make it easy. I think we’re going to have a record day today.”
Many pharmacies and hospitals offer permanent drop boxes where residents can dispose of prescription medication.
Lt. Doane wants to remind everyone that cleaning out your medicine cabinet could help prevent theft, drug abuse, and potentially save a life.
