ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WROC) — With the Bills' final pick of the fifth round, the team chose Troy defensive end Javon Solomon. Solomon led the nation with 16 sacks in 2023. He had 56 total tackles last year, with 18 coming for a loss. He was named a second-team All-American. He also had 11 sacks in 2021. He finished his collegiate career with 32.5 sacks. That's the program record at Troy, a school that has produced DeMarcus Ware and Osi Umenyiora. "He knows how to get to the quarterback," said Bills GM Brandon Beane. "You can't deny his sack production. We're excited to get his hands on him." Beane said that he needs to improve on his run defense, but his pass-rushing ability was too good to pass up. Solomon spent draft day with his family and friends and enjoyed the community aspect when he finally got selected. "I was sitting down on the couch," Solomon said. "I had just got done praying, my prayer just got sent up. I was trusting, trusting. Then boom, the call comes through, I see the area code, Buffalo, NY. Then it's just a sigh of relief." "It's just a dream come true ever since I was a little boy," said Solomon. "I've had these dreams ever since I was little. Now they're being fulfilled and the glass finna overflow because we've got a lot more to do." Solomon said that he tries to model his game from current Bills edge rusher Von Miller. The new draft pick added he can't wait to learn from him. "It's a dream come true," said Solomon. "I've been trying not to try, I've been crying for like five minutes. But to play and just hear what he got to say is all the more wisdom I just need. He's a legend. He's a future Hall of Famer. The way this man bends, the way he plays, it's going to be-- I can't wait to try to take a bit of his game and try to model it after me". Solomon also wrestled in high school, a trait that Sean McDermott loves. He's a smaller player at 6'0'', 247 pounds, but is a quicker player.
