SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) --  A former nonprofit executive on Friday pleaded guilty to stealing over $400,000 from the economic development agency, prosecutors said. Katerine Lu Acquista, 47, of Escondido, admitted to stealing money from San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation for her personal benefit, the Office of the United States Attorney Southern District of California said in a news release. Acquista, who had access to the nonprofit's bank accounts, credit cards, checkbook and payroll system, put personal expenditures on the agency's credit card and directed the accounting department to issue checks from San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation to herself, according to her plea agreement. Missing Camp Pendleton Marine contacted, NCIS says, but family still searching "To conceal her scheme, Acquista caused false entries to be made in the non-profit’s accounting system to account for the missing funds. For example, Acquista put personal charges on the EDC credit card, and then caused the expenditures in the EDC’s accounting system to be entered as charges for maintenance and repairs or for office supplies," the news release said. In her plea agreement, Acquista admitted that her scheme resulted in the nonprofit losing $433,275.89. Acquista is set to be sentenced on July 15 at 9 a.m.
