SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - A fire broke out Thursday afternoon at a home near Woodruff. Fire departments from across Spartanburg County and Laurens County responded to the fire on Carlton Road, just west of Woodruff. According to Trinity Fire Department Deputy Chief Matt Daniels, firefighters from the North Spartanburg Fire Department, Laurens County Fire Department, Poplar Springs Fire Department and the Fairmount Fire Department responded to Trinity's call for help because Trinity's forces were already split between two nearby fires. "We had limited resources upon arrival due to two working instances within a close vicinity of each other," said Daniels. Firefighters said the fire was brought under control in 45 minutes, but the home was destroyed. "It's going to be a complete loss," said Daniels. A neighbor said he was driving when he spotted the fire. That's when he said he got out and helped a woman and her newborn baby get away from the burning home. "It was on fire, and I pulled down here, and I see a newborn baby and a woman coming out the back," said Mathew Puckett, 23, of Spartanburg County. "I asked if anybody [else was] in the house. [The woman] said, 'nothing but a bunch of dogs'. [I] tried to go back in there and get the dogs out, [but I] couldn’t get them, so we called 911." The woman and her newborn baby were taken to the hospital but it was not clear whether they were injured in the fire. "The Trinity fire department stands with them," said Daniels. "We’re deeply sorry and we hope to help them in any way we can." "I’m just glad to see the mom and her newborn baby weren’t hurt any worse than they [were]," said Puckett. There's no word yet on what started the fire.
