ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Dr. Jeff Liles started his career teaching an 8th grade social studies class in Oklahoma. 45 years later, he gave his last lecture Thursday as an associate professor at St. John Fisher University.
One of Dr. Liles' students from his first teaching job came to visit all the way from Oklahoma to attend his last lecture before he retires.
"I won an award this year, and I felt like that was a walk off homerun, right? An award for teaching. This far supersedes that," Liles said. "To have a student that was an eighth-grader in Moore, Oklahoma fly to Rochester, and walk in my classroom, that's a walk off grand slam."
Liles tells News 8 he plans to spend more time playing guitar in his retirement.
