ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Saturday, April 27 is National Prescription Drug Day – a twice-a-year event sponsored by the DEA encouraging people to take steps and remove unwanted, unused, or expired medications from their homes. The DEA says that this can help reduce medication misuse, opioid addiction, and drug-related violence. Multiple locations in the Greater Rochester Area are open to allow people to discard unwanted medication. Some of these locations are only for Saturday, however, there are multiple locations open year-round. Below are two lists — one for drop-offs on April 27 and another for year-round drop-offs. Drop-offs on National Drug Take-Back Day (April 27) Wegmans Over 50 Wegmans locations across seven states are partnering with local law enforcement agencies to host community prescription medication drop-off events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 27. The service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked. Wegmans locations in the Rochester area that are taking part in this initiative include: 3701 Mt. Read Boulevard 2301 Lyell Avenue 776 Calkins Road 900 Holt Road Canandaigua (345 Eastern Boulevard) Brockport (6660 4th Section Rd) Chili-Paul (3175 Chili Avenue) Irondequoit (525 Titus Avenue) Penfield (2157 Penfield Road) Newark (800 West Miller Street) The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is partnering with the Wegmans stores in Henrietta, Penfield, Brockport, and Chili. Liquids, needles, and sharps are not accepted. Batavia Police Department The Batavia Police Department is holding a special drop-off at their station on West Main Street. They are only accepting prescription drugs and sharps. This will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. LeRoy Police Department The LeRoy Police Department is only taking prescription drugs only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The drop-off is located at their headquarters on West Main Street. Year-round drop-offs Local Law Enforcement Several police departments and sheriff’s offices throughout Monroe County have drop boxes or collections for residents to discard medicines. Some of these accept medicine, while others specifically ask for pills only. Below are the addresses for these drop-offs, as well as the hours of operation. Each one is only open on weekdays: Sherriff's Office (A Zone): 955 South Panorama Trail, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (No sharps or needles are accepted) This excludes holidays. Sherriff's Office (B Zone): 393 Calkins Road, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (No sharps or needles are accepted) This excludes holidays. Sherriff's Office (C Zone): 2330 Union Street, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (No sharps or needles are accepted) This excludes holidays. Sherriff's Office (Property, Basement): 130 South Plymouth Avenue, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (No sharps or needles are accepted) This excludes holidays. Brighton Police Department: 2300 Elmwood Avenue, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (no sharps or needles allowed). This excludes holidays. 1 Clinton Street, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This excludes holidays. Brockport Police Department: One Clinton Street, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This excludes holidays. Fairport Police Department: 31 South Main Street, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (No sharps, needles, liquids or pills are accepted) This excludes holidays. East Rochester Police Department: 317 Main Street, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. This excludes holidays. Ogden Police Department: 269 Ogden Center Road, weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This excludes holidays. Other Hospitals, Pharmacies and Colleges Park Ridge Apothecary: 1561 Long Pond Road, Suite 104. Weekdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. Strong Memorial Hospital: 601 Elmwood Avenue. Weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Strong Ties Pharmacy: 2613 West Henrietta Road. Weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (No sharps or needles accepted). Highland Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy: 1000 South Avenue. Weekdays 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Highland South Wedge Pharmacy: 777 Clinton Avenue South. Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Walgreens: (East Ridge location only) 2100 East Ridge Road Pharmacy drop box. Weekdays are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tops Pharmacy: (Mount Read location only) 3507 Mount Read Boulevard. Weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. St. John Fisher College: Haffey Hall – Safety and Security Department Office, 3960 East Avenue.
