BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Erie County District Attorney's Office announced Monday that a man from Sloan admitted to criminal weapon possession and driving while intoxicated in two separate indictments. 34-year-old Timothy A. Murek, Jr. pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon following an incident with Cheektowaga police in 2021. On Dec. 26, police received a report of someone with an illegal gun. Murek would not take his hands out of his pockets and was detained. Police recovered a handgun from his waist that was found to be operable. Murek faces up to 15 years in prison as a second felony offender. He also pleaded guilty to felony driving while intoxicated after having two previous convictions within 10 years. On Sept. 2, 2022, Murek got into a two-vehicle crash while driving in the area of Towers Boulevard and French Road in Cheektowaga. A later investigation found that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Murek faces up to seven years in prison when sentenced on the DWI charge in June.
