Police officers arrested dozens of people at pro-Palestinian demonstrations at Yale University in Connecticut and New York University in Manhattan. The police crackdown came after Columbia cancelled in-person classes on Monday in response to protesters setting up tents at its New York City campus. The protests spread to other universities, including Boston and MIT. In New York, officers clashed with students in Gould Plaza. Riot police could be seen taking down tents and grappling with protesters. A New York police spokesperson said arrests were made after the university asked police to enforce trespassing violations but the total number of arrests and citations would remain unknown until much later. On the Yale University campus in New Haven, Connecticut, authorities arrested at least 47 protesters on Monday evening, the university said in a statement.
