BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. In an effort to counteract those numbers, Adventist Health is holding a free clinical breast screening event Friday, because early detection, is key. According to the American Cancer Society, Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in American women. Celebrating 50 years of educating future nurses at CSUB One in eight women will get this diagnosis during her lifetime. These screenings are detrimental to women's health because if you catch it early enough, there's a good chance it can be easier to treat. Jackie Engstrand, Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator at Adventist Health said women over the age of 40, who do not have health insurance are encouraged to attend the screening. A free service like the one happening today could be one of the only reasons for some could be screened. The screening is happening from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Adventist Health Breast Center located at 2700 Chester Avenue. Watch the full interview in the video player for more details.
