MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A shooting that left a teen dead outside of the Douglass Community Center stemmed from a fight, according to Memphis Police. The deceased victim has been identified as 16-year-old Mario Vanhook. Neighbors across from the community center say they saw it coming due to teens frequently gambling and fighting after school. "They always be out there in the evening time I guess they say the little boys be back there shooting dice I guess," said Rodney Young, a painter in the local community. Young says he witnessed the chaos from across the street and that he's seen his fair share of violence. He says he refuses to let the shooting stop him from working. "As long as I make it out I'm straight oh yeah I'll paint anywhere," Young said. Arrest made in Wynne, AR mass shooting Vakedra Walker says her daughter went to school with the deceased freshman. "Well, she's sad just because she knew of the young man. This is her last year as well," Walker said. "For this situation to happen tragically he lost his life to this senseless act. I hate that this happened to him. He didn't get a chance to live his life." Walker's twin sister, Jakedra Gilliam, says due to the violence here her children do not attend school in Memphis. "Very worse these young kids aren't thinking, they're not thinking," Gilliam said. 12-year-old Kailyn Yates says she wants to tell those responsible for the shooting to "stop all the violence and killing people for unnecessary stuff" and to "put all the guns away". Police say no charges have been filed at this time. At last check, the 17-year-old victim was expected to be ok.
