SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Thunderbirds will play their last season game this Saturday at the MassMutual Center in front of another sold-out crowd. NCAA hockey regional tournament boosts western Mass. economy by $1.2M This season has been a record-breaking year for the Thunderbirds when it comes to attendance. The team has sold out their last 14 games at the MassMutual Center, with a total of 20 full-capacity attendance out of their 36 home games this year. This is a new record for the MassMutual Center, with the previous record of 15 sellouts in the 2022-23 season. "Year in and year out, we are overwhelmed by the support the team has received from our loyal fanbase," said Thunderbirds President Nathan Costa. "This achievement is a testament to the hard work of all members of our business operations staff, the commitment of our city to its hockey team, and the never-ending love we continue to receive from all of our fans." This season also saw a record-high average attendance of 6,321, up from 6,162 from last year. This new average of 93.1% capacity makes the Springfield Thunderbirds the second-highest in the American Hockey League (AHL). Another record could also be broken this weekend by Forward Adam Gaudette. He is the current leader in the league for most goals in a season, currently at 44. Gaudette would become the first Springfield player to lead the league in goals and receive the Willie Marshall Award since 1991 when Michel Picard had 56 goals with the Springfield Indians.
