RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney has released a statement in response to the recent shootings that have taken place in the city. The following statement was made in response to the recent acts of gun violence in Richmond where a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Whitcomb Court, and where Stoney said two parents were killed and a 17-year-old injured after a shooting in Mosby Court. “This past week our city was devastated by senseless acts of gun violence. Any act of gun violence is tragic, especially when a child loses their life. A child who was taken away from us far too soon. A child who will never grow up and experience a full life. I am frustrated and sick and tired of losing Richmonders to gun violence. My heart grieves for the victims, their families, and our city. My administration and Richmond Police Department are committed to removing the scourge of gun violence in our community — and we will continue our community support efforts to reduce these senseless tragedies and wrap our arms around our residents. Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney The statement comes after authorities across Central Virginia are asking the community to share any information they can as they continue to investigate shootings that have resulted in five juveniles shot and three people dead in the past week.
