Tori Wittenbrock photos GREEN BAY – After a 5-0 win against Lakeland and a 2-0 win against Luxemburg-Casco to start the 2024 season, the Notre Dame Academy Tritons clipped off a 7-0 win against the Sturgeon Bay Clippers on Monday, April 8, to continue their streak.  “We started the season off well and after a long offseason they have really been pushing the ball around well and possessing and scoring early on which is good,” said Tritons Head Coach Nick Browne. The Tritons came out hungry from the kickoff immediately building into the opposing team’s half off of the kickoff.  Lacey Fabry posed an early threat to the Clippers throughout the first few minutes getting off multiple shots on goal and keeping the ball in the box for her team.  Just three minutes into the match, senior Audrey Burnell lofted a far left-footed shot just inside the far post for an early 1-0 lead that would give her team momentum for the rest of the game.  The Tritons continued to possess the ball in the midfield, led by Charlee King who forced repeated turnovers to gain back possession for the Tritons.  Moments later, another NDA goal lit up the scoreboard when King knocked the ball into the back of the net off of an assist from midfielder Abbie LaMere’s negative pass to the top of the box for the 2-0 NDA lead with 27 min remaining in the first half.  Just five minutes later, Fabry netted a goal into the far post over the top of the Clippers keeper from near the byline for the 3-0 lead.  The Tritons gained possession straight off the kick off and a nearly identical play was tapped in by Teya Bordini for the 4-0 lead as the Tritons began to pull away.  The Clippers earned their first real chance at an attack with 20 minutes remaining in the half, but NDA’s back line defended it well, forcing the ball out for a goal kick.  Audrey Burnell forces a turnover from the Sturgeon Bay Clippers. The final score was a 7-0 win for the Tritons. After multiple shots across the face of the net and a header attempt by King, Sturgeon Bay was able to hold the Tritons to 4-0 going into the second half.  “I think we are a deeper team than we have been in the past. With games like this it is great to get everyone in and get all their minutes in and see them push the ball around and possess like we do because a lot of those girls are the future of the program,” said Browne.  Three minutes into the second half, a shot by LaMere skimmed the top of the crossbar, keeping Sturgeon Bay on their toes. Six minutes later, Elisa Juarez rang the far post with service across the box.  Though the Clippers defense dropped their back line to ward off shots from NDA in the second half, Bella Hill’s unassisted goal with 23 minutes kept the Tritons on top, bringing the score to 5-0.  Though NDA was able to keep the ball in Sturgeon Bay’s box for the majority of the second half, finishing in the final third seemed to be a struggle given their opportunities.  Bordini’s goal through a follow-up shot in the box with 10 mins remaining seemed to break the streak, but was called offsides moments later.  However, Bordini quickly netted a redemption goal following up on an assist by Maddi Massart to bring the score to 6-0 with six minutes remaining.  Senior Jasmin Martinez scored the final goal of the game one minute later assisted by Bordini for a final score of 7-0.  “Today wasn’t our best showing and when you play a team that plays a little bit more defensive it’s going to be up to us to spread the ball out wide or take those opportunities to get it out to the wing and force their keeper to make a lot of saves,” said Browne.
