WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) - After a student died in a Port Allen High School football game shooting, agencies in West Baton Rouge Parish formed a task force to tackle crimes involving juveniles. WBRSO created the Organized Crime Task Force. It includes WBRSO along with police from the Port Allen, Brusly, and Addis Police Departments and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office. "The Organized Crime Task Force was created to focus on juvenile-related crimes and being able to identify any potential threats," said Sgt. Landon Groger, the public affairs coordinator for WBRSO. "This involves the men and women from all the agencies working together in identifying subjects and who they associate with." Groger said eight firearms have been seized, two of which were reported stolen. Arrests have been made with a range of charges. They include: Illegal gun possession by a juvenile. Simple battery. Fleeing a cop. Drug possession. Justice obstruction. Authorities have arrested four juveniles so far this year, Groger said. Sixty-nine were arrested in 2023. Groger said law enforcement depends on community involvement from civic and faith-based groups, DARE programs and teachers.
