Former Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard appears to be trying to restart her political career in Georgia after the embattled politician failed to get reelected last year.Henyard has qualified to run in the May 19 general primary election to represent the District 5 seat on the Fulton County Board of Comm issioners, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office. She is running as a Republican, and her occupation is listed as “business owner.” The fifth district covers most of the southern Fulton County, which contains parts of Atlanta and its suburbs. The former mayor and Thornton Township trustee has faced several investigations into her conduct in office, including an ongoing federal probe into a $200,000 payment to a controversial contractor whose owner was convicted of bribery and sentenced to five years in federal prison.Henyard did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Henyard overwhelmingly lost her mayoral reelection campaign last year to Dolton Trustee Jason House. Henyard earned 12% of the vote, to House's 88%, during the February primary race for mayor of the south suburb. House went on to handily win the general election in April. At the time, he said his priority as mayor is rebuilding trust between local government and residents.Last month, the Village of Dolton sued Fifth Third Bank claiming the bank enabled Henyard to “steal” $1.9 million in public funds over at least one year.In 2024, the village hired former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to conduct a noncriminal investigation into Henyard. Her report, published in January 2025, found that Henyard mismanaged Dolton’s finances through “excessive” spending and hid financial information from trustees and the public. She also skirted transparency efforts, Lightfoot's report found.Henyard was accused in 2024 of attempting to cover up an alleged sexual assault of a township employee. In a lawsuit, the employee accused Andrew Holmes, a Dolton trustee and community activist, of raping her while in Las Vegas for a conference.
