Timothy Sowinski, 57, was pronounced deceased after being found unresponsive at the United States Penitentiary in Florence on Sunday morning, according to a news release by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Sowinski was serving a 13-month sentence in Florence to run consecutive to a 71-month prison
term after a bank robbery conviction and violating conditions of his probation, according to federal court documents. He robbed separate banks in 2018 and 2022 of around $5,000 total.
The sentencing order in January also issued additional terms for Sowinski’s imprisonment, including incarcerating him at the Bureau of Prisons’ medical facility to receive maintenance on psychotropic medications.
Sowinski arrived at the high-security facility on Sept. 29, following his sentencing in the District of Western Pennsylvania, according to the release.
No one else was injured and there was no threat to the public, the release stated.
