INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Central Indiana is bracing for a week of active weather, with rain, snow, strong winds mid-week, and an arctic outbreak late week
Today:
High pressure will bring colder air, with single-digit wind chills expected near and north of I-
70 this morning, and afternoon highs reaching only the mid-20s to low 30s.
Tonight:
Cloud cover will return as a weak system passes north of the state. Temperatures will be chilly again, falling to the mid-teens to low 20s.
Mid-week rain and snow:
Another system is expected to arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing light rain and windy conditions. Temperatures will stay above freezing, keeping precipitation liquid, but will fall throughout Wednesday as a cold front passes. Snow showers are expected on Wednesday evening as colder air moves in.
Late in the week, scattered light snow is possible on Thursday. Friday may see additional flurries or snow showers, with very cold ground temperatures allowing even minimal snow to stick. The incoming Arctic air will be the bigger story.
This weekend, a deep upper-level trough and an arctic high will bring the coldest air of the season, with lows in the single digits and sub-zero wind chills. Northern counties may experience single-digit wind chills for several days, and daytime highs on Saturday may only reach the teens.
