Nonprofit seeks Federationbranded license plate in Ohio
Dec 06, 2025
The Federation, a nonprofit dedicated to community building and humanitarian outreach, has officially launched a petition to establish a Federation-branded license plate in the State of Ohio.
This initiative seeks to honor decades of Federation-led service projects, fan-driven events, and charitable
campaigns while offering Ohioans a unique way to showcase their support for community engagement and the enduring legacy of science fiction, according to a news release.
“For over 40 years, The Federation has brought people together through creativity, compassion, and collaboration,” Russ Haslage, leader and organizer of The Federation, stated in the release. “A Federation license plate would not only celebrate our shared love of science fiction, but also directly support humanitarian causes across Ohio.”
The proposed plate design would highlight The Federation’s iconic branding, symbolizing unity and imagination. Funds raised through plate registrations would go toward Federation-led initiatives, including:
• Humanitarian aid projects supporting families in need across Ohio
• Community events such as SKYcon, which blends science fiction fandom with charitable fundraising
• Youth outreach programs that inspire creativity, inclusivity, and volunteerism.
The petition is now open to Ohio residents, with signatures being collected online and at upcoming Federation events, according to the release. Once the required threshold is met, the proposal will be submitted to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles for review and approval.
“This plate is more than a symbol—it’s a way for Ohioans to drive change, literally and figuratively,” Russ added. “Every car that carries a Federation plate will represent hope, imagination, and the power of community.”
Ohio residents can sign the petition and learn more about the initiative at online or by visiting Federation Headquarters in Sandusky.
