METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) - Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi is making the quarterback situation very clear ahead of Monday night's game at Green Bay. The Saints will start rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler if quarterback Derek Carr cannot start. Carr is still considered week-to-week and day-to-day with a left-hand injury that happened in a win over the Giants in Week 14. Carr did not play in Week 15. Carr still has to clear concussion protocol, which to do he has to practice, Rizzi said. The main concern right now is the functionality of Carr's hand. Carr's return is still possible this season. “Derek Carr wants to play this season," Rizzi said Thursday. "He wants to come back and play this season. There is absolutely zero doubt about that. When he can fully function, go out there and function all the duties as a quarterback, he'll be back on the field. "Apparently there are some reports out there about him being done for the season and things like that. If he was done for the season, we would put him on IR by now and we would've shut him down. That's just not the case. So he's working his tail off every day. He's frustrated by some of the reports, quite frankly. We've had multiple conversations about it and he's in here every day. And like I said, he had one of his best days today (Thursday). So as soon as he's able to function and as soon as he's able to go out there and get some functionality back in his hand, we'll do that." Also Thursday, the black and gold opened the 21-day practice window of wide receiver Chris Olave, who's been out since suffering his second concussion of the season in Week 9. Rizzi said he is doubtful to play Monday night at Green Bay.  Baton Rouge native Clyde Edwards-Helaire signs with New Orleans Saints Latest News New Orleans Saints: Alvin Kamara's injury more significant than initially thought, Clyde Edwards-Helaire adds depth to running back Cameron Jordan resurging in second half of season for New Orleans Saints New Orleans Saints to start Spencer Rattler if Derek Carr cannot play Monday night Thief returns baby Jesus figurine stolen from Colorado nativity scene: 'I made a dumb mistake' Republicans scramble for funding plan C as shutdown deadline draws near
