ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) -- Police have identified the man who died after he was shot by Arlington police at the Rosslyn Metro Station Tuesday.
At around 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 10, officers from the Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) were dispatched to a Safeway in the 1500 block of Wilson Boulevard for the report of a suspicious person.
A preliminary investigation showed that a man, identified as Cedric Butler, 27, of no fixed address, was speaking to employees when he reportedly pulled out a knife before leaving the area.
Two responding officers then found Butler, who matched the suspect description, on the top floor of the Rosslyn Metro Station. When officers tried to detain him, ACPD said he pulled out a knife, and a struggle ensued.

During the struggle, one of the officers discharged their gun, shooting Butler. Officers gave him lifesaving aid until medics arrived to take him to the hospital, where he later died.
A knife was recovered at the scene, according to police.
The two involved officers were also taken to the hospital, one with non-life-threatening injuries and one for medical evaluation. Both were released soon after and have been placed on routine administrative leave.
The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is investigating the shooting. Following the investigation, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office will conduct an independent review.
