Storm Track 3 Forecast: Friday night drizzle/showers, warmer weekend ahead
Dec 13, 2024
Clouds continue to thicken today only to be followed by drizzle once the atmosphere moistens.
Drizzle began this afternoon near the Oklahoma state line and is spreading northward. Towns near the Nebraska state line to the northeast will be hit with a batch of freezing drizzle and freezing rain where the moisture meets the coldest air. This could be enough to slicken some road surfaces tonight.
Winter Weather Advisories are posted for portions of Nebraska, northern Missouri and into Iowa to account for slick travel along with parts of South Dakota and Minnesota over to Wisconsin and Northwest Illinois. Jewell County in Kansas is the only one now included as of 10 PM Friday. A small area near Waterloo, Iowa, is under an Ice Storm Warning!
There will be some instability that comes into play tonight, promoting a clap of thunder or two with showers blossoming upon the departure of this storm system. The wind will also be stronger from central through eastern Kansas during today's storm system.
Any moisture clears to the east early on Saturday. The sky will reveal more sunshine with warming temps over the weekend.
Sunday will be the warmest with highs, especially over the southern half of the viewing area, soaring through the 50s and 60s.
Another system builds clouds into the region the second half of Sunday. Any showers and drizzle will favor the Turnpike and points east Sunday night into early Monday. The system gels with more moisture once it is out of our area.
Temperatures cool early next week before the advancement of another system. This also looks to mature with more moisture outside of our viewing area to the east by mid-week. Warmer air tries to make a play for the end of next week only to get cut short by another blast of cold air for the following weekend.
