Suffolk Salvation Army seeks volunteers amid busy holiday season

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Salvation Army workers and volunteers are busy this time of year making a difference through programs like Toys For Tots, and there's still plenty of time for you to join in and help.
From the shiniest new toy to books, gifts are welcome to our local Salvation Armies as they fulfill their Toys For Tots program.
"When we started, this room is full, and now because were gonna be starting next week, it gets a little thinner," said Suffolk Salvation Army Administrator and Toys for Tots Coordinator Karen Twinney said.
The number of families they serve has grown, and Friday alone, they added two more. The Suffolk Salvation Army serves the Western Tidewater communities stretching to Franklin and Southampton County, and their holiday wish is to bring joy to more than 1,900 children.
"There's actually nothing that you can't gift that isn't going to be loved on and wanted by a child," Twinney said.
She says other branches, like the one in Hampton, need gifts, and bell ringers are always in high demand. That money goes right back to the community as well.
"All that money goes into us helping all five counties through the year," Twinney said. "We have the OK to do electricity and water and gas for all of those counties."
Any form of help you've given, or plan to give, is greatly appreciated.
