(Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(News Release Dec. 13)–Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) Maintenance Operations and Fleet Services Manager Tim Byrne today said that due to the potential for freezing rain late Friday, December 13, and early Saturday, December 14, winter operations crews will monitor street conditions throughout the evening and overnight hours.
“Crews will begin patrolling city streets with the onset of freezing rain. They will treat arterial streets, school, and bus routes with granular salt pre-wet with brine throughout the evening and overnight hours as needed to help prevent ice buildup on Lincoln streets,” Byrne said. “We will also be patrolling streets surrounding Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Devaney Center to assist with safe travels for basketball and volleyball game attendees.”
Residents should be prepared for winter weather driving conditions. Tips and reminders include:
Stock vehicles with winter roadside kits that include ice melt, small shovel, flashlight, blankets and handwarmers.
If safe to do so, stay with a stranded vehicle until it can be moved.
If it is not safe to stay with your vehicle, call the Lincoln Police Department non-emergency number at 402-441-6000.
Wait to file police reports if there is no urgency.
If you have an emergency, dial 911 and officers will respond.
LTU Winter Operations information and updates will be shared through the news media, on Facebook and X, and through the City’s Winter Operation email updates.
