GASTON CO., N.C. – More and more people say they are seeing mysterious lights, described as drones, in the sky. It seems to have first started in New Jersey. And now, they’re being seen here in Gaston County. Viewers sent WCCB videos of lights in the sky. The videos were taken Thursday night in different parts of Gaston County: Bessemer City, Cramerton, Belmont. One video was sent in from Shelby in Cleveland County. Lawmakers from different states are demanding answers. The Department of Homeland Security says people are probably just seeing small aircraft. “They’re not small aircraft. Small aircraft do not contort, change shapes and change colors. They do not dart across the sky,” says Bessemer City resident Jennifer Stiles. She continues, “I don’t feel like it’s a threat, but I think they know a little more than they’re letting on. And I don’t know, I think it’s exciting.” US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas says, “Let me calm (peoples’) nerves. We have not seen anything unusual, we have not seen any unusual activity. We know of no threat, we know of no nefarious activity.” People are calling on the federal government to shoot one of the drones down to examine it.
