SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KRON) -- A man who allegedly committed a hate crime against a new LGBTQ+ bar on Pacific Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz has been identified and arrested, police said Friday.
Police said 45-year-old James Eason targeted The Neighbors Pub, a recently opened bar, on December 10. Surveillance cameras recorded a masked man vandalizing the pub before he walked away pulling a wagon.
"Someone had etched an offensive message into the glass front doors of the bar. In addition, evidence was found suggesting an attempt to set fire to the area around the front entrance. Burnt materials were collected, and a section of the wall near the doorway was scorched," the Santa Cruz Police Department wrote.
While the vandal's identity was a mystery, officers arrested Eason for an unrelated crime earlier this week.

Officers compared their body camera footage from Eason's earlier arrest to the pub's surveillance images, and concluded that it was the same person, according to SCPD.
Eason was re-booked into jail Friday on charges including vandalism, hate crime, and arson.
