Police give 'all clear' after report of weapon at Savannah Classical Academy

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Police responded to a report of a student with a weapon at Savannah Classical Academy on Friday.
Officials said it has since been confirmed that this was a false report, that there were no weapons on campus and that the 911 call did not originate from school personnel or telephone numbers.
Savannah Classical Academy was placed on lockdown around 11:40 a.m. as the Savannah Police Department, Chatham County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol responded.
Several roads in the area of East Anderson Street were blocked off as police worked to sweep the campus.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the "all clear" was given by police and students resumed class.

Amid the police response, a school official texted parents saying:
"All is well here at SCA. There was a call to the local police reporting there is an incident here at SCA. We are all fine. there is a heavy Savannah Police presence here conducting a precautionary sweep of the campus."
The CEO of the school, Barry Lollis, also released the following statement to the media:
"We are thankful to our local law enforcement for their prompt action and precautions taken while we confirmed that the report of an armed student was false. We appreciate our students, parents and faculty who adhered to our protocols calmly and effectively which aided law enforcement in quickly and efficiently addressing the incident."
Savannah Classical Academy is a public charter school serving over 400 students K-12.
