Sanitation worker killed in St. Tammany Parish crash

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — An Amite man is dead following a crash in St. Tammany Parish.
Louisiana State Police report that on Friday, Dec. 13 around 6:05 a.m. they were called to the scene of a crash on Louisiana Highway 437 near Royal Pine Drive.
Arrest made in Warehouse District homicide investigation
An investigation revealed that 26-year-old Benjamin Bonura was working as a sanitation hopper on the back of an international garbage truck. The truck was headed south on the highway when it stopped.
Behind it was a Hyundai Elantra that, for unknown reasons, did not stop, crashing into the truck and striking Bonura.
Bonura was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to LSP.
Two accused of armed robberies, carjackings arrested: NOPD
Troopers said the truck was wearing a seatbelt at the time but suffered no injuries. The Hyundai driver was also wearing a seatbelt but sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Toxicology results are pending as the crash remains under investigation.
