It’s not just about the game. More and more often these days, the Detroit Lions are making headlines for what they’re doing off the field.
Star wideout Jameson Williams has encouraged his teammates to get out in the Detroit community. Just this week, they hosted a coat drive for families in need at Downtown Boxing Gym.

After pummeling the Jacksonville Jaguars in November, Jamo and Kerby Joseph went to Detroit youth center The Yunion’s annual turkey drive.
“I was surprised that they came. I thought, ‘Wait a minute, you want to come after the game?’ I think that’s just what they are about, giving back to the city. They see without the city, there’s no Lions,” said Ronald Lee Jr., programming director at The Yunion Strategy, per CBS Detroit.
Meanwhile, Sonic and Knuckles attended an advanced screening of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” at Emagine Royal Oak with 115 students from the Lomas Brown Jr. Foundation. I can’t imagine how much that meant to them.

And of course, Jared Goff was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service along with excellence on the field.

This isn’t the first time he’s been nominated either. Goff is known for his philanthropy with wife and supermodel Christen Harper as they use their own resources and apparel brand JG6 to build libraries and STEM Labs in schools, provide scholarships to Detroit youth, and more.
Many other Lions are giving back in a number of ways. It’s the commitment to the city both on and off the field that exhibits the team’s true love for Detroit.
And onto the rest of your notes.
Heads up if you’re heading to the game this weekend:

The song “You Know the Lions Won Again” has recently become a new anthem for many. Mlive’s Kory Woods takes an in-depth look at local artist Gmac Cash and the inspiration behind the song.
If you've attended a #Lions game or followed them closely in recent years, you've likely heard "Lions Won Again" more times than you can count. But what inspired local artist @GmacCash to create the song? The story begins in Week 13 of the 2021 season.https://t.co/uAVxX1KUQR— Kory Woods (@KoryEWoods) December 10, 2024
Penei Sewell is mic’d up for Sights and Sounds this week, plus an extended cut of the Lions locker room celebration from the Packers game.
A really interesting look at how someone assimilates to becoming a Detroit Lion:
