Former DC police officer sentenced for sexually assaulting 15yearold girl

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A former D.C. police officer has been sentenced to several years in prison for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia (USADC).
On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Lucius Kearney, 52, of Washington, D.C., to serve 90 months in prison.
This comes after Kearney was convicted in September 2024 for first-degree sexual abuse of a child.

According to evidence presented at trial, the teenage girl, who was in the tenth grade at the time, met Kearney while working on a school project.
The trial revealed that the girl and Kearney exchanged numbers and began communication about the project.
However, at one point, their conversation turned sexual and Kearney engaged in sexual acts with her in his truck. near a D.C. public library.
Officials said the abuse took place during the 2005 and 2006 school year.
Although the abuse transpired over 10 years ago, the USADC stated that the victim did not reveal the abuse until 2020, following an encounter with Kearney while he was on duty.
According to the attorney's office, Kearney will be placed on 10 years of supervised release and is required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
