NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- A man was stabbed near a Salvation Army in Norfolk on Thursday night, police said.

Around 9:10 p.m., officers responded to 203 W 19th Street where they found a 53-year-old man suffering from a non life-threatening stab wound. The stabbing occurred during a physical altercation with an acquaintance.
The man was taken to the hospital for treatment.
As a result of their investigation, detectives arrested and charged Melvin A Spruill, 35, with malicious wounding.
Spruill is currently being held in Norfolk City Jail without bond.
