Chicken byproduct scattered on US13 after tractortrailer crash in Nassawadox

NASSAWADOX, Va. (WAVY) - Chicken by-product was scattered on the roads of US-13 Friday morning after a tractor-trailer crash.
According to officials, just before midnight, a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer hauling chicken by-product ran off the road and overturned while traveling south on US-13 in the Nassawadox area. The crash resulted in the loss of the load.
Police said the driver most likely overcorrected the vehicle while running off the roadway, resulting in the trailer overturning and blocking off the southbound lanes.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), all north lanes were closed on US-13 near Lankford Highway due to the crash. A detour was set in place at Nassawadox and Seaside Road.
The driver was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening issues and is expected to be okay.
The crash remains under investigation, but police said alcohol was not a contributing factor.
