When we launched in 2016, it would have been difficult to envision the remarkable position we’re in today: a Pulitzer Prize-winning newsroom (and the largest in Mississippi) dedicated to providing the people of our state with accountability journalism that drives meaningful change. We’re deeply proud of this impact and remain committed to pushing forward, growing and serving our community with purpose, fairness and responsibility. As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on another groundbreaking year. Our coverage tackled critical issues facing Mississippi, from statewide elections to personal stories of injustice and resilience. Just one year after winning a Pulitzer Prize, we were named a Pulitzer finalist for a deep investigation into abuses of the criminal justice system. Among numerous other national and regional accolades, we also won a coveted national prize for our ongoing fight for press freedom. We collaborated with local Mississippi newsrooms and we partnered with well-known national outlets to expose systemic wrongs and provide in-depth, data-driven reporting. We worked hard to find new ways to reach more Mississippians, and we delivered comprehensive reporting on health care, public education, politics, justice and other pivotal issues shaping our state. Above all else, we produced journalism that couldn’t be ignored by our state’s power brokers — work that will, we hope, provide some tangible accountability. The work of our staff this year reaffirms our dedication to producing the most impactful journalism our state has to offer. Thank you for your steadfast support and engagement.
