MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Voters in the town of McColl will go to the polls in March in a special election to elect a new mayor to replace the late George Garner.
The election is scheduled for March 4, according to the Marlboro County Board of Voter Registration & Elections. Officials said the date was chosen by town leaders.

The deadline for candidates to file and other important dates connected to the election have yet to be determined.
Garner was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Cashua Ferry Road in Darlington County in late November. He crashed head-on into another vehicle while being followed by a Marlboro County deputy out of concern for his well-being.
News13 learned later that at the time of Garner's death, he was connected to an active investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The details of that investigation have not been made public.
His death came several days after the resignation of the town's police chief and the rest of its officers in the wake of now-former Police Chief Bob Hale's complaints about problems with town leaders.
The March election is not the only one coming up in McColl. Voters will go to the polls in January in a special election to fill a town council seat left open when Judy Stubbs resigned in September in the midst of issues between town officials and the police department.
Candidate filing for the council election has already begun, and early voting will start on Dec. 30.
