CLARKSBURG, Md. (DC News Now) -- Two high school principals in Montgomery County are alerting families about a fight that sent a student to the hospital. A joint letter sent to parents from principals Bradley Rohner of Damascus High School and Anita O'Neill of Clarksburg High School detailed an "altercation" that resulted in an injury. "The injured student was evaluated by the school nurse as well as Fire and Rescue who ultimately transported the student to the hospital for further evaluation," the letter reads. It involved students from both aforementioned high schools. "It has also come to our attention that the incident was videotaped and is being shared among students and possibly others," the principals wrote. "We strongly urge families to talk with their children about the harm that sharing such videos can cause. Disseminating footage of an incident like this adds to the trauma and hinders the efforts to resolve conflicts and restore a sense of safety in our schools." DC News Now has not received confirmation or details from the Montgomery County Department of Police. Lily Clingan, a freshman at Clarksburg High, told DC News Now an incident like the one that occurred on Wednesday could raise safety concerns in the school community, and she hopes some changes could be made to lunchtime protocols. "I honestly think there should be more security watching around the school to make sure that kids aren't leaving campus during lunch," she said. "The fact that such a violent thing can happen to students here is upsetting, but I'm hoping that it can show a message moving forward that we should stop violence in schools." The letter encouraged communication between parents and children about the importance of reporting incidents of violence to school officials.
