MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Providing the best possible care is the mission of the VitellaCare Health Clinic as it opens its doors to Blue Cross Blue Shield members this week. The clinic, which is managed by Crossover Health, started construction during the summer and will be welcoming patients soon. The goal of the clinic's primary care model is to help take care of the different healthcare needs that community members have. The VitellaCare Health Clinic, located on the third floor of the Trinity Health Hospital in Minot, will be opening its doors on Friday and hopes to address the shortage of primary care in the western part of the state. The Senior Vice President of Health Delivery for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, Lacey Bergh, says that the clinic focuses on preventative care as well as taking into account the complexities of the health care system. "As we think about the progression of disease that people have often going in and finding out they have a diagnosis that's a stage and different things and really wanted to think about how we could encourage people to get preventative care," said Bergh. How concerned are North Dakotans about e-waste? Bergh says the clinic model of care is an all-encompassing approach to a patient's health. "It enables them to really get to know that person not only the reason they came in but better understanding the other things they have going on at home, often they're called the social determinates of health things that impact our health that aren't traditional medical care but access to food support systems," said Bergh. While the clinic is relatively small, Bergh says that patients will have improved access both in person and virtually. "There will be one provider in the clinic and there is room to add more providers as patients are coming into the clinic but the goal is that they would have very good access. Part of the clinic model is also to have virtual access to the same care providers if folks want to have virtual appointments, they can do that as well as in-person appointments but it is intended that the access would be very easy to get in," said Bergh. However, Bergh says the clinic is a way to try new things that work and share them with other providers to improve care all around. "Our goal is to be transparent to the other providers in the market and be able to say we tried this and these were the outcomes we were able to achieve," said Bergh.
