HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP)-- The Hampden District Attorney's office has announced an arrest in a homicide case from July 2024. A suspect was arrested Wednesday, December 11, 2024, for their alleged role in the death of Dexter Ortiz, 38, of Holyoke. Due to the age of the suspect, their identity cannot be released. Suspect arrested in deadly Holyoke shooting on West Street According to investigators, on Wednesday, July 9, 2024, at 11:22 p.m., the Holyoke Police Department was called to the area of the 50 block of West Street for a reported shot spotter activation. Officers found an adult male gunshot victim, Mr. Ortiz, who was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Two other people with non-life threatening injuries were taken to the hospital as well. This in an ongoing investigation being conducted by members of the Holyoke Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
