CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Cranston man admitted Wednesday to leading a conspiracy that distributed tens of thousands of fentanyl-laced fake Oxycodone pills, according to U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha.
Jorge Pimentel, also known by the nickname "Big Head," pleaded guilty to a federal indictment charging him with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, as well as possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
Prosecutors said Pimentel brokered sales of approximately 34,000 fentanyl-laced pills and coordinated their delivery between May and September 2023, earning $37,000 from the transactions.
He was arrested on Sept. 29, 2023, after investigators searched a Pawtucket storage unit he rented. Inside, they found nearly 9,000 grams of fentanyl in powder form, approximately 20,000 fentanyl pills, and a high-speed pill press.
Cunha said the pills were counterfeit Oxycodone designed to mimic a legitimate pharmaceutical product but contained fentanyl.
Pimentel is scheduled to be sentenced in March. Cunha noted no plea agreement has been filed in the case.
