Firefighter dies after battling blaze in Randolph County

WINCHESTER, Ind. — A firefighter is dead after sustaining an injury while battling a blaze in Randolph County.
The Winchester Fire Department was called Thursday afternoon to a working structure fire on Watson Street. Fire crews from White River, Lynn and Farmland assisted WFD.
During the fire, a Winchester firefighter reportedly suffered a medical emergency. WFD confirmed Thursday night that the firefighter was taken to IU Ball Memorial Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced deceased.
EMS officials said they are not releasing the name of the firefighter who died until WFD or the City of Winchester provide the information.
"We ask that you lift up the firefighter's immediate and work family, the on-scene responders, the 911 dispatchers at the mic, and his friends," Randolph County HSEM said on Facebook. "As approved information becomes available, we will assist Winchester in distributing that information."
No other information was immediately provided. FOX59/CBS4 is now working to gather more information.
