HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands will be breaking ground on its first high-rise rental project - Hale Moilili - at the site of the former Stadium Bowl-O-Drome on Isenberg Street. The project includes a two-story townhouse with seven three-bedroom units overlooking Old Stadium Park and a 290-stall parking structure. If you see a honu with a number, this is what you need to do "This will be an affordable rental option exclusively for beneficiaries on the DHHL waiting list. Whatʻs important to note is beneficiary's that choose to rent will not lose their place on the waitlist. We have more than 29,000 on the waitlist, with more than 11,400 of those being on the island of Oahu. That is the largest waitlist of any county. Oahu also has the least amount of land available therefore a high-rise project like this makes a lot of sense," said Kali Watson, the Director of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. The project is expected to be completed in 2027, and DHHL has other projects in the works. "Weʻre looking at 28 new projects for a total of more than 7,500 lease awards. The program is moving at a rapid pace and we need to mahalo Governor Josh Green for his support of the department and creating housing opportunities for our beneficiaries. We encourage those who qualify to submit an application to be on the DHHL waitlist and if youʻre a current waitlister, please contact the department to make sure your contact information is up to date so we can ensure you get the latest information of whatʻs to come."
