Dec 12, 2024
Stanley is recalling 2.6 million of its popular travel mugs due to a defect causing burn injuries, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall involves all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs that were sold in the United States.
The reason for the recall is that the mug’s lid threads shrinking “when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard.”
Stanley has received 91 reports worldwide, including 16 in the U.S., of the recalled travel mugs’ lids detaching during use, the CPSC said. The hazard has caused approximately 38 burn injuries worldwide, including two in the U.S., with 11 consumers requiring medical attention.
