BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A former West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office deputy accused of malfeasance in office was arrested Wednesday.
Al Jackson, 35, was arrested on Dec. 11 on charges of malfeasance in office and introducing contraband into a penal institution.
WBRSO said the investigation began in October after allegations surfaced that Jackson smuggled a cell phone into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
“This type of misconduct not only undermines public trust but also jeopardizes the safety and security of the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail,” said WBRSO Sheriff Jeff Bergeron.
The sheriff's office said that employed as a corrections officer since December 2023, Jackson was terminated prior to his arrest and remains in custody at the jail without bond.
