The Greater Cleveland Sports Awards on Dec. 12 announced the finalists in five categories for the Feb. 6 event held at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. The event will mark 25 years for the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards. There are four finalists for Professional Athlete of the Year: • Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez • Cavaliers shooting guard Donovan Mitchell • Browns cornerback Denzel Ward • U.S. pole vaulter Katie Moon of Olmsted Falls High School The other award finalists: Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year Award — John Carroll men’s basketball player Luke Chicone (Mentor), Baldwin Wallace baseball player Joey Marousek (North Royalton) and Bowling Green football player Harold Fannin Jr. (Canton McKinley) Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year Award — Buffalo volleyball player Mandy Leigh (Padua), Michigan field hockey player Lora Clark (Shaker Heights) and Cleveland State softball player Melissa Holzopfel (Massillon Perry). Male High School Athlete of the Year Award — Cleveland Heights’ Marquise Davis (football), St. Ignatius’ Quinn Woidke (basketball) and Garfield Heights’ Marcus Johnson (basketball). Female High School Athlete of the Year Award — North Ridgeville’s Grace Kingery (basketball), Bay’s Riley LaVogue (lacrosse) and Saint Joseph Academy’s Annabelle Groomes (volleyball). Finalists were selected by local sports and media outlets as well as an awards committee who chose candidates from the following counties: Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Stark and Summit.   Fans can cast their vote in each category. The voting cutoff is Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. Go to clevelandsports.org for more information on how to vote. Other awards to handed out Feb. 6 include the Courage Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Best Moment in Cleveland Sports, the Senior Athlete Award and the Sports Development Award.
