Two Pedestrians Critically Injured in Shelburne Road Crash

Two pedestrians were seriously injured after a car struck them on Shelburne Road in South Burlington on Wednesday afternoon. The pair were walking through a painted crosswalk across the Interstate I-189 on-ramp around 4:30 p.m. when police say 61-year-old Jeffrey Fay, of Richmond, hit them as he was entering the highway in a pickup truck. April McMahon, 54, of St. Albans, and Todd Brissette, 61, of Burlington, were taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center by ambulance in critical condition, according to a press release from the Vermont State Police. The release described McMahon's injuries as life-threatening. The crash investigation is ongoing, and Fay, who was uninjured, has not been charged with a crime. The busy stretch of Shelburne Road, also known as Route 7, in South Burlington and Shelburne has seen a spate of serious and fatal accidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists in recent years. Six cyclists and pedestrians have been killed on the road since 2020, which is nearly half of the 13 who have died in all of Chittenden County during that time.
