PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Tucked away in a field off of I-95 South, dozens of temporary homes were set to open for the homeless population in Providence in March. However, nine months have gone by, and ECHO Village has still not opened. Back in May, a spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Housing announced that ECHO Village would not open until the fall. The cause of the delay was due to supply chain issues, according to that spokesperson.  The project also had to wait to receive approvals regarding safety measures, energy, and plumbing from the Building Codes Standards Committee. Today, newly named Housing Secretary for Rhode Island, Deborah Godard, will chair a Housing Commission meeting at the Rhode Island State House. The discussion of that meeting will center around ECHO Village. The meeting is set for 1 p.m. Categories: News
