Ewers listed as probable for Lone Star Showdown, Longhorns favored by TD over Aggies
Nov 29, 2024
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers remains probable for the Lone Star Showdown on Saturday in College Station, according to the Southeastern Conference's most recent availability report.
The SEC's report is updated at 7 p.m. CT Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of game week in SEC contests, and then a final update is provided 90 minutes before kickoff. Ewers was listed as probable on Thursday night's update, as well.
Battle-tested Longhorns confident heading into Kyle Field
Ewers injured his ankle in the No. 3 Longhorns' 31-14 win over Kentucky last week at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. It appears that he'll be healthy enough to give it a go against the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies.
As of Thursday night, the Longhorns are a 6-point favorite on the road in Kyle Field, according to ESPN BET. Over the past 30 seasons, according to ESPN, the Aggies are 22-11 against the spread versus top five teams, the second-best in FBS during that span. However, they are 0-3 against the spread in their past three games. The Longhorns are 8-16 against the spread against ranked opponents since 2010. That's the worst in FBS since then for teams with a minimum of 15 games.
Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed is a ‘legitimate dual-threat quarterback’
It's the third time this season Texas is a favorite on the road, the most of any FBS team. It's the 16th time overall this season that a ranked team at home is the underdog, and those teams have gone 11-4 against the spread.
The winner of the Lone Star Showdown will face Georgia on Dec. 7 in the SEC championship game. Texas has the best record in the SEC at 6-1 with A&M at 5-2, but a win for the Aggies would vault them into the title game via a tiebreaker. The SEC confirmed Georgia as a participant Nov. 23 after the Bulldogs finished their conference slate at 6-2. They have tiebreakers over Texas and Tennessee.
