Adams Central soars past Linton to win 2A state title

INDIANAPOLIS (WANE) - After years of heartbreak at Lucas Oil Stadium, Adams Central is finally bringing a state title back to Monroe. The Jets rolled past Linton, 46-6, to win the 2A state championship, and their first since 2000.
Adams Central scored all seven touchdowns on the ground, tying a 2A state championship record for most rushing scores by a team. Jamison Roach led the way with 142 rushing yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns. Matt Heiser finished his high school career with 94 rushing yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. Aaron Hirschy added two touchdowns and 58 yards on the ground.
Defensively, Adams Central snatched four interceptions to stymie Linton's offense. Max Kaehr snagged an interception on Linton's first series to set the tone in Friday's win. Carson Schnitz, Jaret Smith and Braylend Reber also picked off Linton's Braylon McBride.
Following Kaehr's interception, Heiser punched in Adams Central's first touchdown of the day from six yards out to take a 6-0 lead. Schnitz then forced another takeaway, leading to a one-yard touchdown run by Hirschy. Adams Central led, 13-0, at the end of the first quarter.
Roach led Adams Central's offense on a 13-play, 75 yard drive in the second quarter to give the Jets a commanding 19-0 lead at halftime.
Adams Central fumbled the opening kickoff of the second half, which allowed Linton to score their lone points of the day. The Jets responded with a 12-play, 77-yard drive, which ended with a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Roach. Adams Central's quarterback then scored his final touchdown of the day off another Jets' interception. Following another Hirschy touchdown to close the third quarter, Adams Central led, 32-6, heading into the final 12 minutes.
Heiser wrapped up Adams Central's scoring with a one-yard touchdown, capping off a 10-play, 43-yard drive.
Adams Central wraps up a stellar season with a 14-1 record, their first 2A state title in school history, and their second overall.
