NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — There's a relatively new Thanksgiving Day tradition in Mid-City known as the "Human Horse Races." In these one-of-a-kind races, the humans get to be the horses. The "Human Horse Races" is a piggy-back style race, where someone gets on another person's back, and that person runs. The "Human Horse Races" were held at Easton Park at 3141 Toulouse St. in Mid-City. Cleverly crafted hats at New Orleans Fairgrounds for Thanksgiving horse races Live music was provided by The Dapper Dandies, and food and beverages are available, along with arts and crafts vendors. Winners of the races received handmade trophies by local artists, and betters got an entry for a chance to win a special raffle basket. Proceeds benefit local animal & wildlife rescue initiatives. This year's beneficiary is Greeno Equine Sanctuary.
