North Carolina woman was pregnant at time of her murder, police say

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) - New and disturbing details in a Charlotte murder case from earlier this month showed that a female victim who was shot and killed during an attempted robbery was pregnant at the time of her murder, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced on Thursday.
Officers responded to calls regarding the incident around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November, 13th, near 5400 Strive Street in north Charlotte. 33-year-old Jameisha Wilkes was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on scene.
32-year-old Dasean Maddox was identified as the suspect and was later arrested in Cabarrus County and charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. A further investigation determined that Wilkes was pregnant adding an additional charge to Maddox of murder of an unborn child. Maddox was also accused of stealing Wilkes' cell phone during the incident. He is being held without bond in Mecklenburg County.
The case is being handled by a grand jury, according to a decision made on Monday by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office.
Operations command, CSI, victim services, Medic, and CFD were among the departments that responded to the scene. Det. Trietley is the lead on the case.
