SILVER SPRING, Md. (DC News Now) -- While Many were off for Thanksgiving spending time with family, first responders, police officers and healthcare workers were among those who had to work on the holiday. Dr. Kaitlin Kehoe works at White Oak Medical Center in Silver Spring. She told DC News Now that working on Thanksgiving was a joy because it meant she and her colleagues got to take care of their patients. “Having the opportunity to talk to your patients and participate in their care and hopefully make them feel a little better today is very much in the spirit of Thanksgiving," she said. "In some ways, it's uplifting to be here and Thanksgiving is a great holiday to work and invest in taking care of people." Hagerstown rallies this Thanksgiving to help those in need The hospital provided a Thanksgiving meal for the entire staff. Workers like Dr. Kaavya Murali said treating patients is their top priority, even if that means working during the holiday. “I think today especially is an important day to be cheerful and keep that smile on our faces because [our patients] are unhappy about being in the hospital on a holiday like Thanksgiving, missing their family," she said. "So it is extra important to put big smiles on our faces and show them this is just like any other day and we going to get them home soon."
